Meet Anastasia
This beautiful girl is Anastasia. She is what rescue is all about, there is no mistake!
A harsh hand in life but what we see is a truly amazing dog that just adores to be around humans. So much so, that it’s tragic she doesn’t have her own home, comfy bed by the fire and a family to call her very own because boy……….does this little lady deserve it!
Anastasia fully vaccinated, spayed and she is medium in size (around 14kg).
Anastasia was dumped on the street in March 2022 in a catastrophic condition. She had a huge tumor under her tail, an open wound on her head and an injured leg. She was full of fleas, ticks and worms, and after going to the vet it was found that she also had heartworm, could things get any worse for her? Fast forward and Anastasia is now free from heartworm, the tumor was removed (which turned out to be benign) and her head wound has now fully healed, leaving her with some battle scars that we truly think make her even more endearing.
Yes Anastasia has a story, she has a past, but we are determined to rewrite her fate and her future. She is a survivor, she is rescue. Despite everything she has been through (years of neglect and probably abuse) she is a happy dog who loves people and other dogs.
She is comfortable with children over 8 years of age, she loves to both play and cuddle - a great family addition or loyal companion. Anastasia is also cat friendly. When our Trustees from the UK visited the pension in 2023, Anastasia was a firm favourite, very sociable and just dying for attention and cuddles which our Trustees were happy to supply!
Anastasia is now heartworm free but because of her heart condition due to the previous HW infection she had she is using Cardiovet supplement as a protection for her heart. Full scans can be sent to any new adopters vet along with a full vet report. As for Anastasia’s leg, there are two old injuries - fractures, one on the elbow joint, and the other at her wrist. Since these are old injuries, the orthopedic veterinarian said that it’s too late to operate but as she does use the leg it’s not wise to amputate it. Anastasia will benefit from a joint supplement to keep her mobile and may also benefit from hydrotherapy and physiotherapy on the elbow joint.
Anastasia has received our standard two negative tests after treatment including a lab Knott blood test and an ultrasound scan of her heart. These can all be supplied the Anastasia's adopters. Heartworm is fairly common in Serbia and many dogs recover in full if caught early enough and dogs can lead full and normal lives. Heartworm is not generally well known in the UK but there are plenty of articles online and a useful video within the video library on our website here https://www.balkanunderdogs.org.uk/video-library.
Anastasia is now safe in a pension where she is kept safe waiting for her new home
