  • Meet Anastasia

This beautiful girl is Anastasia. Sadly she was dumped on the street in March 2022 in a horrific condition.

She had a huge tumor under her tail, an open wound on her head, and an injured leg. She was full of fleas, ticks, and worms, and after visiting the vet it was found that she also had heartworm.

Our lovely rescuer enlisted our help quickly and she was taken to surgery. The tumor was removed (which was thankfully benign), she was spayed and heartworm treatment was started.

As for the leg, there were two fractures, one on the elbow joint, and the other at her wrist. Since these are old injuries that had already healed the orthopedic veterinarian said that it’s too late to operate but, as she does use the leg it’s not wise to amputate.

She will benefit from a joint supplement to keep her mobile and may also benefit from hydrotherapy and physiotherapy on the elbow joint.

She has a bald patch on her head where one of the wounds hasn’t quite healed but this should be fully healed by the time she travels.

Anastasia is now safe in a pension and is kept safe waiting for her new home. Despite everything she has been through (years of neglect and probably abuse) she is a happy dog who loves people and other dogs.  She loves to play and cuddle. She has not yet been tested with cats, but this can be arranged if required.

Anastasia is using Cardiovet supplement as a protection for her heart due to her previous Heartworm infection.

Anastasia has been treated for and is fully recovered from heartworm, she has received our standard two negative tests after treatment including a lab Knott blood test and an ultrasound scan to ensure no lasting effects from the heart-worm have remained, these can all be supplied to Anastasia’s new adopter. Heartworm is fairly common in Serbia and is transmitted by a mosquito bite. We have many fully recovered dogs leading normal and full lives in the Uk after treatment. There is a video about heartworm in our video library on our website that provides information and can be found here.

All our dogs are tested for the following prior to travel: Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Erlichiosis, Lyme Disease, Brucellosis (since 11th June 2021).
