A Ridgeback mix, approx 5 years old (August 2026).
Good with people, and other dogs. Looking for a quieter home without children, or teens plus. Can live with dog-hardy cats.
Meet Thelma
Beautiful Thelma and her sister Louise were found as young pups living on a construction site. They were being fed and were relatively safe until people started moving into the houses. They didn’t want stray dogs hanging around and so Thelma and Louise had to be moved to safety.
Thelma arrived in the UK in November 25. Thelma is back in our care as she was struggling around the regular young visitors to her home. We are looking for a quieter home without children or a home with teens plus. She is currently in East Sussex but can be transported throughout the UK to her new home.
Thelma is a Ridgeback mix so on the larger side. She loves humans once she gets to know them and she loves a cuddle and playing with her toys. She can be unsure of some visitors to the home but generally follows the lead of her adopter and retreats to her safe space. That said, this is only with one or two visitors to the home that she is clearly unsure of. Thelma is happy when meeting children out and about and was fine with the child active in her care in her Serbian pension, she just struggles around younger and louder children in the home.
Thelma is a sophisticated lady who knows exactly what she likes. She can be homed either as an only dog, where she’ll happily soak up all the attention, or with a calm, well‑mannered dog who’s happy to give her a bit of space when she wants it. She previously lived in a foster home with dogs who enjoyed rough play, and she found that a bit overwhelming. Thelma much prefers gentle company and the option to take herself off for a moment of peace when she feels like it. It’s part of her charm, she’s a woman of refined taste, after all. If there is a resident dog, we’d want them to come and meet Thelma so everyone can say hello and make sure the vibe is right.
Thelma has been curious of cats and shows an interest, therefore we would only consider a home with dog hardy cats.
Whilst Thelma loves her walks and gets excited to go out and about, she can be a little reactive to dogs she doesn't know, so support would be given from the team on focus work to help Thelma relax and rely on her handler for assurance. She’s happy walking with dogs that she has met several times. She loves a rural walk where she can have a good sniff and explore. We are confident that this can be worked on as she’s a dog that is eager to please.
Thelma would suit an active couple or single person looking for a companion. Thelma is a gentle and intelligent girl who enjoys a fuss but is equally an independent dog, she is quite happy to take herself away for a lie down/quiet time. Thelma is clean in the home and can be left for around 3 to 4 hours happily.
Thelma is spayed and vaccinated.
All our dogs are tested for the following prior to travel: Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Erlichiosis, Lyme Disease, Brucellosis (since 11th June 2021).
