Meet Bracken
Beautiful Bracken is a female German Wirehaired Pointer. She is a very sweet, socialized, and affectionate dog of medium size. We believe someone tried to use her for hunting, but then abandoned her when they no longer needed her, and she ended up in the pound.
Bracken is friendly and well-socialized. She loves cuddles, enjoys being around people, and gets along well with other dogs.
Message from Bracken:
"The pound that I live in is not a great pound at all. I do not get out of my enclosure and the BU team cannot get me travel ready whilst I am here. If you would like to adopt me it would be wonderful if you could contribute towards sponsoring me out of the pound and into a pension where I will get much better care, socialise with other dogs, exercise daily, and I can be prepared for travel. The average cost for me to be safe in a pension is around 50euros a month.

Bracken is spayed and vaccinated.
Bracken tested positive for heartworm on routine testing and is currently undergoing treatment. She will be able to travel to the UK after two negative heartworm control tests have been achieved and a scan to check there is no lasting damage.
Heartworm is fairly common in Serbia and many dogs recover in full if caught early enough and dogs can lead full and normal lives. Heartworm is not generally well known in the UK but there are plenty of articles online and a useful video on our YouTube channel here.Bracken has showed a positive result for anaplasmosis, for which antibiotic treatment has been received.
Anaplasmosis is a fairly common tick-borne disease prevalent in countries such as the Balkans. It is treated with a course of 30 days of antibiotics which is sufficient according to vet advice received. Bracken does not show any symptoms of anaplasmosis and has received her 30 day course of treatment. A useful information sheet on Anaplasmosis can be found here. All our dogs are tested for the following prior to travel: Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Erlichiosis, Lyme Disease, Brucellosis (since 11th June 2021).
