Meet Spud
If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion, Spud could be the perfect addition to your family. Spud is a lively and affectionate boy who gets along well with other dogs.
Spud, along with his partner in crime Sprout (also in UK foster and looking for a home), were once strays on the busy streets of Belgrade. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to move both Spud and Sprout to a safe space when the weather turned harsher. Now, Spud is in a loving foster home in the UK, ready to find his forever family.
Spud can be worried by strangers and may feel nervous when visitors come to the home, especially if not introduced properly. However, once he feels safe and sees that no harm is meant, he settles down quickly. He will need an owner who can offer him a calm and safe space to assess new people on his own terms without rushing him. Spud’s ideal home would be with an active adopter who can give him the time and space he needs to thrive.
Spud would do well in a more rural home where he can feel secure and confident. While he can be a bit strong on the lead, his lovely foster mum is already making great progress with his lead training. His foster carer thinks he would make a great agility dog!
Spud would benefit from a home with another dog to play with, as he enjoys companionship and would thrive in an environment where he can interact and play with another dog. He is an affectionate and sweet boy who loves his humans. He is house-trained, can be left alone without causing any trouble, and sleeps peacefully in his crate at night. He doesn’t guard his toys and gets along well with the other dogs in the foster home, both male and female.
Spud is fully recovered from heartworm treatment, and he received two negative tests post-treatment, including a lab Knott blood test and an ultrasound scan to ensure there are no lasting effects. We can provide these test results to Spud’s new adopter. Heartworm is common in Serbia and is transmitted by mosquito bites, but once treated, the risk of reinfection is extremely low in the UK since we don’t have the mosquito species that carries it. Spud will just need regular flea and tick prevention, like any other dog.
Spud is not cat-friendly, so he needs a cat-free home.
All our dogs are tested for the following prior to travel: Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Erlichiosis, Lyme Disease, Brucellosis (since 11th June 2021).
